This coming February 8-10, 2013,  I will be teaching three new classes in Tucson, AZ with the Vivi Magoo Art Retreat.  I'm so excited to be a part of this amazing team of instructors, and be working with Barb Montague Solem.

Barb scheduled this so you can shop for a few days of the Tucson Gem Show, then take some amazing classes at the Tucson Hilton with us.  If you have never been to this gem show, whoa nellie!  Hold yourself up!  There are over 50 shows going on all over Tucson, AZ at the same time.  Many of the shows have hundreds, yes, hundreds of vendors!!  It is mind boggling, I know, I attended it with friends for many years.  And boy is it fun. You can find anything!  Rugs, gems, crystals (the giant raw ones), silver anything, gold anything, chains, tools, well, you get the idea.

So put on your walking shoes, bring your jewelry tools, and come join me at the Tucson Gem Show and the Vivi Magoo Art Retreat at the Desert in Feb. 2012.

Bead Soup Reveal 2012

6th Bead Soup Blog Party

It's finally here, the August 25th Reveal.  This year Lori Anderson had over 400 participants! Wow, way to go Lori, that is amazing.

I'm thrilled to be a part of it, and was paired up with a wonderful artist glass from Germany, Kathrin Lembke.  Her work is amazing!  

Here are the beautiful items she sent me.  Kathrin hand made the lovely glass focal, and all the smaller glass beads.  She incorporated a cream, dark navy and brown hues, so pretty!

So here is what I did with some of those beautiful gifts.

I wrapped her focal, and gave it that vintage look I love. Really challenging for me, since I don't normally work with glass, and it was so much fun!

And here is how the whole necklace looks.  I incorporated a few crystals, a wrapped key, some chain, and voila!

What a fun project.  I used the beautiful toggle in the front, instead of hiding it in the back.

Fun, huh?

And here is what I sent to Kathrin. I made a pendant, with some vintage items, attaching a vintage rhinestone earring!  Then I thought some blue Amazonite and Chalcedony might be fun, with some beautiful pearls and bone, and threw in some crystals and bling.  What Kathrin creating is just amazing!! Go check it out!! It is sooooo beautiful!

Paradise in the Northwest

I got through another year of summer shows!

And what a summer it was.  Between the highest temps I can remember, yes I know it isn't really hot to you Southerners, but high for here for sure!  Battling 85 degrees, and a few ladies not wanting to even try jewelry on, my shows were a smashing success.  Thanks to all who came, looked, purchased and signed my guest book.  I loved meeting each and every one of you.

That smile is all about the last day of the show, and it is almost over, ha ha!

Need another visit to Round Top I think for a another couple of pieces?? Eh Diane??

And thank you for all the amazing birthday wishes.  

The show happened on my birthday, so that was fun to let everyone know I was celebrating even more.

Fred and I got to take a quick one night break to Victoria to visit my friend Jill Rockwell. It is always so much fun to head out of the country, and all of an hour ferry ride away.

I took a lot of pictures at an amazing tourist attraction, called Buchart Gardens.

This is a place I have heard about all my life, and had never been.

It is worth the wait. oh my.

Here's a little window shopping picture of a grand ball gown, made of napkins, I thought it was amazing.

Just a couple of the grounds. There are about 55 acres I believe. Or was that 500?? I don't know, it went on forever, and was a picture postcard at every turn.

Fred and I couldn't believe how well manicured everything was, just spotless.

Oh to have a green thumb.

Okay, this is cool. I shot the poster about the Sunken Garden, so you could see it.

This used to be a quarry, and wait until you see what they did with it.  Mrs. Buchart was such an amazing visionary.  This garden was started in 1912, wow.  If she could see it now.

And here is how it looks today, converted from a quarry. 

Just breathtakingly beautiful.  And in full bloom.

What a talented lady!! She is an amazing glass artist.  There are so beautiful, my picture does not do them justice.  Thank you Kathrin, I am so excited to make something beautiful from your amazing glass beads and all the goodies you sent.

This is a great challenge for me, and why it is so much fun to participate in the Bead Soup exchange.  I am used to using vintage pieces and found objects, so I will be challenged to incorporate these fabulous pieces into something different.  What fun.

Here's what I sent to Kathrin, it will really throw her!! She isn't used to working with "vintage", so we will both be challenged!!

I apologize ladies, I'm late!  I have been working my little fanny off getting ready for my summer shows.  So I had a choice, clean the workshop up, top to bottom, or just shoot it like it is...a working studio? I chose the later!!

So you are seeing the workshop in its workaholic stage!

Kind of a mess, but constructive!

Here is where most of the beading gets done.

See all those little beads in separate containers?

That's because we are snowbirds, and move twice a year.

Can you imaging moving your workshop twice a year?

You learn to get very compartmentalized for sure.

Here are some recent things I'm working on for classes, still compiling samples and prototypes. 

And jewelry is sitting out all over the workshop, being priced and tagged for my next show, in a week. And only one more after that, but the studio is buzzing with projects!

Here is my soldering station. Kind of a mess, but it gets used every single day!

Here is my jewelry bench, not cleaned up, not pretty, but here it is!!

I have to have everything in small containers so we can pack it all up and move it in May and September!  There are lots of plastic organizers.  And rhinestones of course!!

Here is a shot of the show the first weekend of June.  Thought I would show this shot, so you can see how the workshop looks when all cleaned up and looking pretty!!

I have a workshop on the other end too, in California.  Maybe one year I will post pics of that one so you can see it as well.

Bead Soup

Just a tease for the 6th

Bead Soup Party!

I'm taking part again in the fun Bead Soup Party, organized by the talented Lori Anderson, of Lori Anderson Designs, and 

Pretty Things blog. Lori puts her heart and soul in to this party, and there are over 400 participants, wow.  How does she do it?

This year I have a Bead Soup partner from Germany.  How cool is that?  I still haven't received her beads, nor her mine, but we are getting very anxious to see what the other sent!  Here is a little tease of what I sent to Kathrin Lembke. She wrote and told me she has a river that runs in front of her house, and another river near by, close to the North Sea.  Sounds like a fabulous and scenic place.  She says they have the biggest fruit growing areas in Germany and freshest fruit around. Wow, that is very cool. I am always so amazed at how well people speak English overseas, a good lesson for we Americans.

I hope she likes what I sent.  She is a talented glass artist, and doesn't use vintage in her work, so this was a challenge for me.  So we shall see what she does with the goodies.

The minute I receive her goodies, I will post them.

Artful Gathering

This video is a little over an hour long, and goes over many of the techniques you can accomplish with a mixed gas torch, a micro butane torch and a power butane torch.  I tried to make this a very informative film for beginners, remembering what I knew when I started.  Nothing!

and replenish our stash!
